The cabin was grand in scale, yet delightfully intimate.  The facilities were more than adequate....obviously a lot of planning went into it's design and location.

We found it a fun base from which to venture out into the Carolina environs, but just as much fun to enjoy the amenities that were  there at the cabin.  The surprise was the size of the accommodations and the variety of areas that a large group of people could enjoy without feeling crowded or intruded upon.

We intend to return again to this well equipped and inviting facility.

We spent a lovely week at Smokey’s last summer. It seemed magical to have driven only an hour west from the hustle bustle of Charlotte airport to the tranquil countryside of quaint small (and I mean tiny) towns and rolling foothills. It was clearly another world, and the lush, park like setting of the area surrounding the cabin was absolutely tranquil.

The term log cabin is used loosely, since this is a spacious house with many bedrooms and three separate interior spaces for gathering. Upon entering the house we had a breathtaking view of the valley and mountains stretching towards the west through the vaulted ceilings and multitude of floor to ceiling windows.  You got the sense that you were surrounded by nature, and yet it was also warm and cozy from all the lovely wood and comfortable furnishings.  We loved the kitchen – open and accessible to surrounding spaces so we could cook and visit at the same time, and with plenty of room for many chefs.  The dining table was our favorite hang out and we spent time lingering around the very large table after many meals.

The downstairs area is the perfect place for teens or in our case - a couple that wants some privacy – there is a massive den that is perfect for hanging out, watching TV, playing board games and when the pool table comes – shooting some billiards. The bedroom down there is nice and isolated, with it’s own bathroom and a lovely view of the surrounding mountains. And of course the décor is absolutely charming (to my husband who loves fishing!)

But the hidden gem was the upstairs area with a separate bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and bunk beds. It was a lovely little hideaway for reading a book, gazing out the windows and stashing our friends who came to visit

And the surrounding area was a pleasure to explore – I spent time everyday walking (actually hiking is more like it) around the cabin neighborhood, taking in nature and getting a good workout. And we explored the local state park – which proved to be very entertaining – lots of trials, varying degrees of incline and activities (fishing, exploring, marked trials with description of local fauna, critters and history). We also visited the many small towns (generous term) – it was like stepping back in time to a simpler era and people were incredibly friendly and food was great.

All in all, one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever had! Thanks Smokey’s!!!!

The view of the house is amazing.  I wonder how the house was made out of wood.  Only thing is that the TV and the telescope have limited use.

This house has the most amazing view. They have an air hockey and pool table.  The caretaker of this house did a good job of cleaning up.  If you want to use a laptop the wi-fi is pretty decent. I know I enjoyed this house and pretty sure everyone else will.  Bobby

The inside of this house is squeaky clean. I also like when the things in the house are fun like the air hockey and darts.  My favorite trip was the white water rafting trip because I like the water, the trees, and the small waves.   My second favorite trip was the sliding rocks trip because I like all the rocks there and the water slide. This house is a very good house!  We get to have so much fun!  Did you know that I love the food?  The house is so pretty and cool.  There are so many bedrooms and chairs.  This house is so so amazing.  This house is cool because there is a camp fire and two decks. I am very glad I am at this house.  I wish I can [sic] stay at this house forever.  This house is so big and so amazing and so so so cool. I love the mountains. This house is very cool. The view is great. It is also very nice to play hide and seek.  Here is lots to do.  There’s a hiking trail and a small camp site.  It was fun here. The basement has a pool table/air hockey table.  We liked to play with it.  Stephen Li
